| The most
important part of the team has to be the driver. No matter
how fast your kart can go, if the driver doesn't have the
abilities to drive it you might as well have stayed home.
More than once we were not the fastest on the track but still
finished out front because our driver had the seat time it takes
to learn the strategies of racing.
I have seen so many parents put
their child in a fast kart just to have them spin in the corners
and finish last. I can't stress enough the importance of seat
time for the driver. We go to the track and practice three
times a week and race once or twice a month, sometimes
more. We try to get at least five hours a week actual
behind the wheel driving time. That is a lot of driving for an
eight year old and this does not include the countless hours he
spends on his racing video games. |
